Last week I wrote a blog on the value of paying attention to your Behavior Flow Report in Google Analytics. Well, it just so happens that Google is giving Behavior Flow a little love themselves. Google just introduced Content Grouping in the Behavior Flow. So what is this new feature & why is it important? Well here ya go:
In my last post I had this graphic that showed how you could see the behavior of visitors through your website. You could even highlight and explore traffic through specific pages.
The reason Google built this new content grouping feature is because it allows you to customize the behavior flow so that it better represents your site structure. For example if you have an ecommerce site that sells clothing for Men and Women you can customize your behavior flow by separating Mens Pages from Womens Pages in separate groupings. From there you can further group them into Mens T-shirts, Mens Jeans, etc. and do the same for Womens. Once you have your customized groupings set up you can now see how users flow through and between these groupings. You can also drill down to find even more insights – like if a specific page is driving a large percentage of traffic.
Here is a video that describes the New Content Grouping Feature in the Behavior Flow Report.
Warning, in the middle of the video it gets into how to integrate this into your site – but don’t stop watching because the end really will help you understand how it could apply to your website. Best of luck setting up your Content Groups, if you need any help – you know who to call!
